I started of creating a blog were I looked at different magazines I analysed them and thought about what needed to be included when creating a front cover of a magazine, I took LIIAR into consideration as all of these things were important to create a successful piece. I looked at all different magazines including music magazines and college magazines so that I had an idea of which target audience I needed to think about
At first I started planning the front cover I did a draft were I used boxes to plan were I was going to put everything, I then took some pictures of a friend outside a library holding books as my idea was that the magazine was going to feature the new college library opening. I chose a few of the pictures that I thought were the most successful. I experimented with the pictures I had. I started to use one of the photos which didn’t end up been my final image, I played around with the text and thought about were to put it, but decided it was the image that was the problem, I used the four photos on my blog to experiment with.
I named my college E.R.C as the photo I had taken was outside an east riding library and it all fitted together. I first did the masthead I wanted to keep it quite simple as the picture was the main focus point, I had it in capital letters as it was the main piece of text on the front cover, I chose the colour I did as it went with the picture. I then thought about how I wanted to say about the library opening I made the text “ New Library!” bold to emphasis the main headline in the magazine I then had the words join free in bold to emphasis that as well. I then had the sort of slogan in bold, “ERC” newly improved college magazine, this told people exactly what it was. I added what was going to be in the magazine in italics as this was not the main story in the magazine but still thought it needed to be included on the front cover. I added the email on the bottom as this is essential on a college magazine, I put it on the bottom as that is usually were people look for an email or those sort of details.
I think my front cover clearly outlines what the target audience is as soon as you see it you look at the picture of the student holding books that indicates that its something to do with a college or school.
I feel my front cover is successful and if was a real magazine I think it would catch the right audience, I think the way I have used a picture as the main focus point works well.
