Double page spread analysis!

Double page spread analysis!

This double page spread has the masthead being a quote, this is bold and edgy to fit with the genre of the magazine, this is very successful as it makes the reader want to read the rest of the interview. The picture is across one full page it is a medium close up shot, which is effective because this who you are reading about. The beginning of the text introduces the artist, stating what they've achieved and what there working on now. This text is in bold, this explains a bit about the artist. The interviewer asks questions that the audience would want to know. The text is in columns making it easy for the reader. In this particular double page spread the text is quite small.

This double page spread uses the same features. As the article starts of with a quote in bold writing the font fits with the theme of the magazine as it isnt smooth and soft its bold and edgy, this text is in columns but it is at the top of the page. The main focus point is the image which is of the band, the pictures are in black and white to give it an authentic theme, the pictures are of the band playing intruments or singing this would let the reader know what they were reading if this was their first time buying this magazine.

This double page spread takes a different approach, one whole page is taken up by a picture while the text is on the other page. It is very simple in the way it is set out with the text in colunms and only one picture. The text opens with the artists name 'pink' which is not much bigger than the rest of the text. The colours used are also very simple in able for you to clearly read the text.

Analysing music magazine KERRANG.

This music magazine Kerrang has been very sucessfull as the front cover is very eye catching interesting and makes people want to buy it,

The masthead is very recognisable if people were to see this text they would know straight away it was Kerrang as they use this text in every issue, the text stands out and shows what short of magazine it is as its bold, it looks like it has been cracked at the K and E and is black this shows that music in the magazine would be around the rock genre.

The main picture again is the main focus point, as well as the main selling line, the picture is of the singer from muse, this also shows what audience would be attracted to it. The artist is playing the guitar again showing what music genre the magazine entertains.
The main selling line is 100 GREATEST GIGS EVER! this straight away points out to the audience what will be in the magazine and is eye catching by using the word gigs instead of shows or concert this implies that it is a rock magazine.
kerrangs front cover is always very busy with usually alot of other small pictures and other selling lines, this makes it very interseting for the eye giving the audience lots to look at this makes the reader pick the magazine up and therefore they will buy it.
Kerrang also has a slogan LIFE IS LOUD this is succesful as it gives the audience something to famillerise with.
As does every magazine kerrang has a barcode and issue number for production
reasons.

Analysing music magazine Q.

Analysis

Masthead: masthead always used as the main piece of text it is always in the same text every issue as this is sort of a logo for the magazine, it makes people familiarise with it. The font is bold and will always stand out. Q uses the colours red and white so that the magazine has its own colour scheme this is appealing to the audience as they recognise it.

Main image: main image of artist who is been featured in the magazine, always a strong image covering the whole cover to make it the main focus point, this particular magazine usually uses popular artists such as madonna to make the audience buy it, the picture of the artist is important as it shows the audience what music genres are included in this magazine. The image also is an indication to the target audience it lets you now what sort of people read this magazine and whether it is the right one for you, the artist is usually dressed in such a way that also lets you no what sort of music genre it is, this is all to let the viewer understand exactly what the magazine is about, and whether they would want to buy it.

Main selling line: The main selling line is the anchoring statement letting you know who is in the magazine usually the artists name or a sentance with their name in it. This is always very bold and is the next focus point from the image, it is usually in the same colour as the masthead so that it keeps with the theme of the magazine again to make it recognisable to the viewers. Q has used "MADONNA" all capitals this is because she is very popular and theyd want people know who is in there magazine so that people would buy it.

Selling lines: Other selling lines that are included are also a glimpse of what is in the magazine, Q uses other artist names to let the buyers now who else will be featured in the magazine, also many magazines use snippets of an interview with an artist so that you want to read more. the text is quite small but still clear the colour will also go with the colour scheme.

On every magazine there is a bar code with an issue number and the date this is for future reference and is needed for production. On lots of magazine covers there will be free giverways and this is represented on the cover usually in bold letters. Q uses the words "FREE INSIDE" this also persuades you to buy the magazine. As the buyers get somethimg from it.

Underlining target audience and genre.

The target audience and genre is very important to a company when creating a music magazine as they want to make the audience to be as broad as they can, or specific as they can, by doing this the front cover needs to look a certain way. The artist on the front needs to represent that genre of music. The font and the colours also needs to link with the genre to get the right target audience, ideology would be used to get across who the magazine is aimed at, using ideas and believes of the people they want to read there magazine. for example:

Smash hits
By looking at the front cover of smash hits you know exactly who the magazine is aimed at, by using Britney spears this shows that it is pop music, the colours pink and yellow are very feminine showing that this is based mostly for girls as well as advertising that there are 12 free posters of men also indicates the target audience, everything on the front cover needs to be thought about in order to attract a large audience. this magazine is very pacifically for young teenagers who like pop music.

Q magazines genre.
Whereas looking at q magazine straight away you would know this is for a different audience than smash hits, the colours used in this are red white and black the artist is also dressed very dark this shows that it is not going to be for very feminine young girls like smash hits but maybe for an older audience, the artist is holding a guitar which is iconic to rock music this communicates the music genre as been rock. The style of the magazine is very obvious the masthead "Q" looks like it has been smashed this also shows you that the music genre is not going be pop or hip hop, but rock.
